Winemaker: Matthieu Cosse

Sunday Night Wine Up a 2012 Domaine Cosse Maisonneuve La Marguerite from Cahors. Deepest ruby color (mellow purple). Not intense but balanced acids and tannins. Long finish. Aged nicely! Paired with Tri Tip.

Back in 1999, Domaine Cosse et Maisonneuve was created from the work of two gifted oenologists and winemakers: Matthieu Cosse and Catherine Maisonneuve. Matthieu the Winemaker graduated from the Institute of Enology in Bordeaux, and Catherine the Ooenologist) has a BTS viticulture and oenology from Blanquefort.  Working with for 15 year on a 5 hectare estate in Prayssac, a short distance from Cahors, they used old Malbec to create wines that are the "antithesis of the rustic image of Cahors". The first vintage was a cuvée called Les Laquets and the pair produced distinct cuvées to reflect the identity of the different terroirs of their vineyard.  Now they haver 17 hectares of vines planted which are predominantly Malbec with somef Merlot and Tannat. The terroir is mostly gravel and clay and sits the Lot river.
