Rayson Winery & Vineyards Elevage Blanc Non-Vintage
Pinot Grigio 60%, Vidal Blanc 30%, and Chardonnay 10%
North Carolina (USA)
Retail: $27 (2024)
A white blend wine of golden yellow color and aromas of summer tropical fruits. Liked the clean finish. Fermented in stainless steel tanks.
Our first time having a Vidal Blanc, a hybrid grape variety produced from Ugni blanc (Trebbiano Toscano) and another hybrid variety Rayon d'Or. It was developed in the 1930s by French wine grape breeder Jean Louis Vidal but didn't do well except in Canada and Northern states of the United States like Fingerlake region where it was used for ice wines. Vidal was expanded to other parts of the United States like Yadkin Valley AVA and Crest of the Blue Ridge Henderson County AVA of North Carolina, and Outer Coastal Plain AVA of Southern New Jersey, Michigan, Virginia, Missouri and other states.
